Happitots Day Nursery
Welcome to Happitots Day Nursery in Winnersh. Established in 1985, we are committed to providing a safe and stimulating environment for babies and children aged from 3 months to 5 years.
Gemma Lee is our Manager at Happitots. Gemma has come to Happitots from our Kingsclere nursery nearby, and is a long established member of our senior team at Complete Childcare. She is supported by Holly Bowden as our Deputy Manager.
Caterpillars has capacity for 9 babies aged from 3 months to 1 year. There is 1 adult present for every 3 babies of which 1 is a Room Senior qualified to NVQ Level 3. The Rooms Senior is responsible for leading her team and ensuring the needs and requirements of each of the babies is met.
The play equipment is appropriate to the development stage of our youngest children and stimulates learning. Education has the potential to begin here and we acknowledge the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which recognises that babies can learn from birth. However, we carefully plan to ensure that emotional needs are met and that due love, care and attention is implemented giving each baby exactly what he or she needs to thrive.
Bumble Bees 1 Year – 2yrs
Bumble Bees is a spacious and fun environment for up to 18 toddlers. The ratio of adults looking after children is the same as Caterpillars and a Room Senior, again qualified to NVQ Level 3, is responsible for the smooth operation of the room.
Like Caterpillars, Bumble Bees benefit from their own changing facility but the play equipment is geared specifically to their age and stage of development which in turn can begin to challenge their already established interests.
Breakfast is between 7.30 and 9 a.m. for all children in Bumble Bees, allowing them to meet and greet each other and to socialise a little before each age group branches off to their respective setting for the day.
Butterflies 2 – 3 Years
Butterflies has capacity for up to 24 developing 2-3’s. There is 1 adult for every 4 children, one of whom is a Room Senior, qualified to NVQ Level 3, leading the team.
The main play room is well equipped with resources to stimulate and each member of our team maximises learning opportunities by facilitating play and challenging thinking.
Many of the children in Butterflies are toilet trained so accessing the bathrooms is easy and the learning continues (personal grooming and hygiene) with a Nursery Nurse supervising. Communal sleep time is encouraged not long after lunch, because we recognise that children need to rest as much as they need to play.
Dragonflies 3 – 5 Years
Dragonflies has capacity for 29 maturing children from the age of 3 to 5 years. We have one adult present for every 8 children in this area and once again a Senior Nursery Nurse, qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 leads her team and is responsible for implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and overseeing the smooth operation of the room. Children benefit from a more structured learning experience in Dragonflies, directly corresponding to the EYFS curriculum.
Dragonflies enjoys a network of indoor spaces, which are bright and spacious, creating a stimulating environment for play, activity and learning. The Conservatory provides a central hub for general play, reading, music and movement. The Art Room encourages creativity and tactile, sensory play.
Dragonflies has its own gardens, one equipped with static activity play equipment on a safety surface, plus a special ‘wild garden’ for further exploration and adventure! The children can freely choose when they want to be outside and what they do there in complete safety.
Dragonflies has an adult-style toilet facility to further develop the maturing skills of our 3 to 5 year olds. It’s simple to an adult, but learning this important skill ready for school is something we take seriously.
The Sensory Room
Our sensory room is currently being relocated within the nursery in order to make it more accessible to all ages. We will be publishing more about it when it's finished - can't wait!
